Accordion mini-albums…

Measuring 3″ by 3″, they are a fun way of showing off your portraits, can easily be tucked into a purse or brief case, and make fun gifts.

If you are like me, you dream of capturing your family amongst the Texas wildflowers.

So this spring, why don’t you make your dreams come true?  You know that you can do that… not just dream things, but actually make those dreams become reality.  Weird concept, right?

We are so trained from the time that we are little bitty princesses that it’s someone else’s responsibility to swoop into our lives and save the day.  (What do you think all those fairy tale stories are really all about, if not being rescued and keeping us all helpless and pictureless.)

But how about this… instead of waiting for someone to take the hint that we want beautiful photography… suffering in silent agony because we do not have beautiful giant canvas groupings of our loved ones tip toeing through the Texas wildflowers… we could just go ahead and rescue ourselves.  It’s called “empowerment through photography.” (Yes, I did just make that up, but I’m a big believer of things that I make up.)

All you have to do is call me, and together we can make those dreams come true.

(btw… if you want Prince Charming to be in the picture, he come along.  We won’t sic our dragon on him for not booking a session first.)

It’s a good time to schedule your session now.  I don’t take on too many clients because I like to give super special individual attention.  Get your spot while I still have them.

SUPER!

Happy St. Valentine’s Day!

While you all know me to be as a photographer (although you might not guess that judging from this image taken from my computer,) I am also a Catechist (a teacher in the Church.)

For years, one of my favorite lessons has been about St. Valentine.

According to catholic.org

Valentine was a holy priest in Rome, who, with St. Marius and his family, assisted the martyrs in the persecution under Claudius II. He was apprehended, and sent by the emperor to the prefect of Rome, who, on finding all his promises to make him renounce his faith in effectual, commended him to be beaten with clubs, and afterwards, to be beheaded, which was executed on February 14, about the year 270.

Since he was caught marrying Christian couples and aiding any Christians who were being persecuted under Emperor Claudius in Rome [when helping them was considered a crime], Valentinus was arrested and imprisoned. Claudius took a liking to this prisoner — until Valentinus made a strategic error: he tried to convert the Emperor — whereupon this priest was condemned to death. He was beaten with clubs and stoned; when that didn’t do it, he was beheaded outside the Flaminian Gate [circa 269].

St. Valentine was a Priest, martyred in 269 at Rome and was buried on the Flaminian Way. He is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travelers, young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses.

One year while I was teaching this lesson, I notice that I was losing my students, so to grab their attention I said…

‘So then the Emperor, had Valentine’s heart cut out and sent in the mail. And that’s where we get the tradition of sending heart shaped Valentine’s.’

Their eyes were like saucers. After several “eeeeewwwwww’s” and faces of disgust were made, I, of course, told them the truth. I did, however, get their attention.

Yeah, you can imagine that I’m not the normal Sunday School teacher. Believe it or not, I do in fact have a degree in Religious Studies… a minor and have taught Religious Studies since 1993. I try to keep things interesting.

Hope you all keep your heads about you this St. Valentine’s Day!

The big news in Houston this week was that it was going to SNOW in Houston… this is a big deal for several reason, for those who don’t know:

  1. It hardly EVER snows here… so something that hardly every happens is a big deal.
  2. With the exception of anyone who has moved here from north of the Red River, hardly anyone in Houston knows how to drive in anything but on the sun shiniest of days.
  3. Snow melts quick, and turns to ice… and driving on ice is NOT the greatest.
  4. THEY CANCELLED SCHOOL A DAY AHEAD OF THE STORM!

So… I had a great idea.  Since everyone love pictures in the snow, I would drive (or walk if it was unsafe to drive because as I grew up in Houston, I never learned how to drive in the snow or ice,) I would go around and take pictures for my friend and neighbor and post them to my FACEBOOK FAN PAGE.  They could have some fun images for their Facebook page, (once they are TAGGED on my page, they show up on their page,) and I could have more people seeing my Facebook Fan page. WIN WIN

But here’s the thing… it didn’t snow… it just iced over… I wouldn’t get the wonderful snowy pictures of everyone that I imagine.  So what do I do when things don’t go the way I thought they’d go?   Go anyways and see what happens!   It would better to go out, have fun with my camera, maybe meet some new people, hang out with my old people, AND get out of the house.  So I did, and had the BEST time.

Here are a few of my images, if you go to my FACEBOOK FAN PAGE, you can find the rest… please feel free to TAG any of them, so they show up on your Facebook Wall.
